Parking near Gashouder

The Gashouder Amsterdam is an iconic event venue, best known as the home of Awakenings and other popular techno parties. Before the Gashouder was converted into an event venue, it served as a large storage tank for gas coming from the Westergasfabriek. The gas was temporarily stored for later use in industrial or domestic applications. 

There used to be several large gasholders in the Netherlands, such as in Amsterdam, Eindhoven and at Hoogovens. Many of these gasholders were demolished or given a new purpose when the Netherlands switched to natural gas. The only completely preserved gasholder is in Demensvaart, a national monument now used for cultural events.
