If you take public transport to Amsterdam Amstel, you will enter the city at Amsterdam Amstel station. Amstel station grew out of the Railway Works East. These aimed to connect Amsterdam East to new neighbourhoods and the rest of the city. Amsterdam Amstel then had many level crossings and these Railway Works were to ensure that this would disappear. This project provided a direct connection between Utrecht and Central Station.
In the beginning, Amstel station was still outside the built-up area of the city. As the city grew, more and more was built near the station and now there is an entire office area around Amsterdam Amstel station. The immediate area will be renovated and redeveloped in the coming years. The station will also be thoroughly renovated. On Amstel, old and new come together. Visit the beautiful Amstel Park, which you can even make a day of. There are various recreational facilities in the park such as Midgetgolf Amstelpark, the Amstel train and the large playground Het Bastion.
